In the heart of Dallas, where lifestyle and design converge in quiet sophistication, even a front yard can become a sanctuary. For Avesso Studio, the Birkenhead Project presented an opportunity to elevate the curb appeal of a corner lot—not with extravagance, but with elegance, balance, and intention.
What was once a standard entryway is now a secret garden: a welcoming composition of vintage vessels, sculptural greenery, and meditative design. This is a front yard that doesn’t just greet you—it grounds you.
The Vision: Curating a Sanctuary with Curb Appeal
When a young couple approached Avesso Studio, their vision was clear: they wanted to feel joy and pride each time they came home from work. The brief was equal parts practical and poetic—low maintenance yet expressive, timeless yet personal.
“Curating a welcoming sanctuary, where every element—from the thoughtful hardscaping to the soothing water feature and the gentle lighting—crafts a symphony of tranquility and joy.”
This guiding sentiment became the heartbeat of the Birkenhead Project. Our design team approached it holistically, transforming a highly visible corner into a serene, self-contained world. The layout had to respect the architecture, soften the surroundings, and create a rhythm between structure and nature—one planter, one path, one patch of green at a time.
Design Details: A Tapestry of Texture, Tone, and Tranquility
Every inch of the space was considered for how it could contribute to a sense of calm, presence, and beauty—while requiring minimal upkeep.
1. Hardscaping That Frames and Grounds

The geometric grid of pavers set in deep green turf forms the structural backbone of the design. The clean, deliberate lines create order, while the turf softens each step and draws the eye through the space. This contrast between hard and soft is both visually striking and emotionally grounding—inviting, not imposing.
2. Vintage Planters, Reimagined with Soul
At the heart of the garden is a curated collection of vintage and artisanal planters, thoughtfully grouped at the entryway. Their weathered patinas and textured finishes add a sense of age and authenticity—each vessel telling its own quiet story. One oversized planter was custom-adapted as a water feature, its sculptural shape transformed into a source of ambient sound and subtle motion.

3. Planting for Place and Purpose
The planting palette is both native and nuanced. Sage, grasses, and low-maintenance greenery spill naturally from the containers, offering softness and seasonal variety. With Dallas’ climate in mind, we installed a drip irrigation system for the beds and placed individual meters on each planter, ensuring sustainability and easy care for years to come.

4. Lighting That Elevates the Atmosphere
While the images capture the project in daylight, the lighting scheme truly transforms the space after sunset. Low, architectural fixtures were integrated to highlight the planters and water feature, creating a glow that welcomes without overwhelming—enhancing the home’s façade and the feeling of returning to a private retreat.
Client Story: From Curb Appeal to Emotional Connection
The clients—a young, design-conscious couple—were engaged and enthusiastic throughout the process. Their openness to collaboration made the project especially rewarding.
“They didn’t just want something beautiful; they wanted something meaningful,” says Daniel Stanley - the principal Landscape Designer of Avesso Studio. “A front yard that felt like a part of them—something alive, comforting, and quietly luxurious.”
Now, as they round the corner and approach their home, they’re greeted by more than a pretty façade. They’re welcomed into a space that reflects who they are and how they want to live: intentionally, joyfully, and with deep-rooted pride.
"When I am coming around the corner, I am so happy in just seeing the outside of my house. It makes me happy going in to my house and coming out of my house. It feels like the insde and the outside match for me now." says Brooke - a proud client.

FAQ: Can a Front Yard Really Be a Sanctuary?
Absolutely. At Avesso Studio, we believe luxury begins the moment you arrive home. The Birkenhead Project stands as a quiet revolution in curb appeal. More than just a facelift, it’s a full sensory experience—anchored by vintage planters, sculpted greenery, and mindful design. It’s proof that luxury landscape design and livability can coexist, and that the most transformative spaces often begin where we least expect them.
Whether you're dreaming of a sanctuary outside your own front door or seeking to create a wellness-driven design that resonates on every level, Avesso Studio is ready to help you bring that vision to life—beautifully, personally, and with intention.
